My story began with a love for the outdoors – the rustling leaves, the whispering streams, and the majestic mountains that have witnessed the passage of time. I grew up camping, fishing and spent many weekends on my best friend’s family farm.

My most cherished childhood memories involve the great outdoors. Including the times I found myself in rather precarious situations. Such as the time I impaled my foot on an unattended fishing hook. Or the time I was stuck on a small fishing boat in the middle of a storm. My favourite; being absolutely covered in mud and cow manure whilst my poor mother had to hose me down. I really did put her through a lot..

Unfortunately, these moments seldom last forever. As we get older, we often find ourselves with a multitude of excuses as to why we should not go on an adventure. I myself have fallen victim of what I like to call the “next time mentality”. What we are not aware of in these moments is that we only have so many “next time’s” in our precious, but fleeting lives.

Backyard Pilgrimage is Born!

I started Backyard Pilgrimage to document me getting back into nature after struggling with herniated discs and searing nerve pain for far too long. I will record my gear choices and honest reviews of the equipment that our weekend retreats depend on. Backyard Pilgrimage will serve as a guide to all who are new to camping and outdoor exploration, and those who are aching to get back out there.

The mission of Backyard Pilgrimage is clear: to guide you through the trails of exploration, to review the gear that accompanies us on our quests, and to delve into the spiritual experiences that the wild generously offers. Our words are an invitation to join us in uncovering the mysteries of both the natural world and our own inner landscapes.
